Russia – Soviet: A final offensive in Czechoslovakia Order of the Red Star awarded to Guards Lieutenant Konstantin Ilyich Makarov, Mortar Platoon Commander, 84th ‘Zvolen’ Red Banner Regiment, 6th ‘Oryol’ Red Banner Rifle Division for destroying an enemy armoured personal carrier with his mortar on the streets of Brno, Czechoslavakia, two days earlier he destroyed 4 enemy firing positions and 18 soldiers and officers during the fighting for an unnamed village.

Konstantin Ilyich Makarov was born in Suzunsky District, Novosibirsk Oblast in 1917. A Russian national he attained an elementary education before joining the Red Army.
He would serve from 1941, being wounded on 6th July 1942, 4th December 1942, 10th March 1944 and 18th February 1945 as well as being concussed on 2nd January 1945:
He was serving as a Guards Lieutenant and Mortar Platoon Commander, 84th ‘Zvolen’ Red Banner Regiment, 6th ‘Oryol’ Red Banner Rifle Division at the time of the award, the citation reading:
‘On 23rd April 1945, in battle for the village of (?) the enemy was laying down concentrated fire, preventing our infantry from getting up. Comrade Makarov moved to the forward line of the infantry units and with accurate mortar fire destroyed 4 enemy firing positions. Up to 18 enemy soldiers and officers were killed in the process.
On 25th April 1945 in battles on the streets of the city of Brno, Comrade Makarov noticed an enemy APC and destroyed the APC with an accurate mortar shot, which allowed our infantry units to advance measurably.
Comrade Makarov deserves awarding of the Order of the Red Star.
After the war he was working as a Firefighter registered in the Central District Military Commissariat as part of Fire-Fighting System 13, Factory 386. He was living in apartment 15, Central Development, 4, Zavodskaya Station, city of Novosibirsk. He would also later be awarded an Order of the Red Star by decree of the 6th Rifle Division.
