Russia – Soviet: A double Merit for Combat Medals group awarded to Junior Lieutenant Peter Danilovich Udovenko, 31st Rifle Corps who would be decorated for performing well in his work as an interpreter on secret papers. He would later complete 10 years long service in the Red Army.
Group of 3: Medal for Combat Merits, type 2, the reverse numbered 1526775; Medal for Combat Merits, type 2, the reverse unnumbered; Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class, type 3, 1985 Jubilee issue, the reverse numbered 1279743.
Condition: the first mounted on old brass suspender, the second on an aluminium suspender, Good Very Fine
Together with award booklet for the 2 Medals for Combat Merits dated 1954, and also the award document for the Order of the Patriotic War named to the recipient and confirming the award number.
Peter Danilovich Udovenko was born in the Tashkent Region, Uzbek SSR in 1918 and joined the Red Army in 10th July 1941 seeing service as a Junior Lieutenant, 31st Rifle Corps.
He would be awarded the Medal for Combat Merits on 14th November 1944: In 1944 he proved to be a respectable, kind and an excellent officer. He was an interpreter and worked with secret papers. He was always in time and he performed good quality interpreting German language..
Little his known of his post war service but the Anniversary Medal for 30 Years of the Red Army and Navy and the award booklet being dated 1954 would indicate the later award of an unnumbered Medal for Combat Merits for 10 years long service.
Note all Medals for Combat Merits were issued unnumbered after 1947.
