Russia – Soviet: A Dniester Bridgehead Order of the Red Star to Guards Junior Lieutenant and Rifle Platoon Commander Ivan Maksimovich Shlychkov, 8th Rifle Company, 1149th ‘Red Banner’ Rifle Regiment, 353rd ‘Dneprodzerzhink’ ‘Red Banner’ Rifle Division who commanded a Rifle Platoon on the Dniester Bridgehead on 23rd July 1944 and repelled an enemy offensive. During the period of battles between 20th and 23rd August 1944 he led his platoon in battle and inflicted loss on the retreating enemy. His platoon destroyed up to 15 German soldiers and officers. He was severely wounded in the fighting.

Ivan Maksimovich Shlychkov was born in the village of Groznoe, Talas Oblast in 1924. A Russian national, he completed 8 grades of education and joined the Red Army in 1942, joining the Komsomol in 1943 he would serve on the frontline from 1943 onwards with the 3rd Ukrainian Front being wounded on 17th October 1943.
This Order of the Red Star issued to him by decree of the 353rd Rifle Division on 20th October 1944 was for his service as a Guards Junior Lieutenant and Rifle Platoon Commander, 8th Rifle Company, 1149th Red Banner Rifle Regiment, 353rd ‘Dneprodzerzhinsk’ Red Banner Rifle Division:
‘Commanding a rifle platoon in battle with the German invaders on 23.07.1944 on the Dniester Bridgehead, he bravely and skilfully led his platoon while repelling the enemy offensive. During the period of offensive battles 20-23.08.1944, situated in the battle lines, he boldly led his platoon into battle, where he inflicted losses on the retreating enemy. His platoon destroyed up to 15 German soldiers and officers. In that battle, he was severely wounded.

By 24th May 1947 he was living at 36 Chaikovsky Street in the village of Kirovka, his occupation was unknown.
