Russia – Soviet: A Defence of the city of Leningrad Medal for Combat Merits to Efreitor Yakov Dmitrievich Bulganin, a Senior Dough Maker, 126th Army Field Bakery, 8th Army for his part in supplying the troops with excellent and good quality food, he had served from 13rd July 1941 and this would be his sole numbered decoration of the Great Patriotic War.

Efreitor Yakov Dmitrievich Bulganin was born in Leningrad in 1911 and having attained an elementary education served in the Red Army from 23rd June 1941. Involved in the Defence of Leningrad, this Medal for Combat Merits would be his sole numbered decoration and was awarded to him as a Red Army Soldier and Senior dough maker, 126th Army Field Bakery by decree of the 8th Army on 28th October 1942 and was as a result of the following recommendation:
‘Comrade Bulganin Ya. D has worked in the 126th Army Field Bakery since 13rd July 1941 as senior dough maker. Comrade Bulganin is the best dough maker in the 126th Army Field Bakery. Now in the 2nd year of the Patriotic War, he has worked continuously in the position of senior dough maker, ensuring the excellent preparation of doughs and thereby assuring the excellent and good quality of bread, for which there have been positive reviews and letters of thanks from units receiving the bread.
Comrade Bulganin gives all his energy and knowledge to his assigned work, working for two whole days without rotation. To the offer ‘Someone will relieve you’ he answers ‘One must do as much as possible for the Motherland and for victory over the enemy.’ For his heroic labour and excellent preparation of doughs and bread, Comrade Bulganin deserves the government award the Medal for Combat Merits.’
The only other decoration Bulganin was to receive was a Medal for the Defence of Leningrad.
After the war he would work as a Carpenter in the Food Industry , Verkhovazhsky District, Vologda Oblast whilst living in the same district.
