Russia – Soviet: A Berlin Offensive wounds Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class awarded to Starshina Dmitry Petrovich Yakovlev, Assistant Rifle Platoon Commander, 121st Rifle Regiment who would be wounded in the left flank and right arm on 27th April 1945 in battles outside the city of Berlin resulting in his discharge to the Reserve.

Dmitry Petrovich Yakovlev was born in Blonti selsovet, hamlet of Troptsi, Ludza Municipality, Latvian SSR in 1920. A Russian national, he completed 4 grades of education before joining the Red Army and seeing frontline service on the Bryansk Front from September 1941.
He would receive an Order of the Red Star whilst serving with the 1st Guards Army in May 1943. Later he would serve with the Belarussian Front, and would be awarded this Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 12th June 1968, 23 years after the war! And one of a number of awards given out in line with the celebrations of 50 years of the Red Army and Navy.
Serving as a Starshina, Assistant Rifle Platoon Commander, 121st Rifle Regiment, he would be awarded this decoration for the following:
‘On 27th April 1945 in battle outside the city of Berlin, he was severely wounded in the left flank and right arm. He was in the hospital recuperating for a lengthy period of time. He was discharged into the reserves due to his wound.
He works as a cabinetmaker at ATK No.32. He is evaluated positively at his work. As a rule, his production tasks are fulfilled and over-fulfilled on time and with quality. For good work and model discipline, he has been given monetary incentives on numerous occasions.
Local Soviet and Party authorities are agreed on the matter of his awarding.’
At the time of the presentation of the award on 21st August 1968 the recipient was working as a Carpenter at the 32nd Auto Transport Office in Riga.
