Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR, awarded to Painter 1st Class A.S. Kidney, Royal Navy who saw service aboard the Destroyer H.M.S. Blanche at Jutland and would later receive his Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 22nd February 1927 whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Pembroke.

Albert Stanley Kidney was born in Gillingham, Kent on 12th February 1894 and would join the Royal Navy on 12th February 1912 giving his trade as a Painter.
He would initially serve as a Painter 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. St. George from 28th November 1913 until 12th December 1913, he would then serve aboard H.M.S. Andromache from 1st January 1914 until 8th March 1915, he would then serve ashore until 21st November 1915 when he would be posted to H.M.S. Blanche, which was present at Jutland but did not participate in the fighting. On 25th November 1916 he would return ashore for the remainder of the war reverting to Painter 3rd Class on 1st October 1918.
Continuing to serve after the Great War he would be promoted to Painter 1st Class whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Dunedin on 5th June 1923, this occurring direct from the rank of Painter 3rd Class. Awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 22nd February 1927 he would still be serving on 1st January 1929 when his service records end.
