James Ball was born on Walton-On-Thames and giving his trade as Baker’s Boy joined on 26th March 1898 in 12 years and would be sent ashore, time expired on 25th March 1910. Recalled for the Great War, he would initially serve aboard H.M.S. Magnificent, before transferring to H.M.S. Royal Arthur on 2nd July 1915, remaining aboard the submarine depot ship until 29th November 1916.
He would serve aboard H.M.S. Blenheim from 20th January 1917 until 21st January 1919 and would be awarded the Long Service Medal in September 1917.
Ball would be demobilised on 18th April 1919.
