Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVIR, 1st type bust, awarded to Sergeant R.C. Woodroff, Royal Marines. From Thames Ditton, Surrey, and later Chatham, Kent, he saw srvice from the 1920's as a member of the Chatham Divison, with the very low number 'CH.X.8'. With the outbreak of the Second World War, he saw active service out in Egypt, and at the time of his award of the Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 12 June 1941, was serving with the Royal Navy base at Ras el-Tin Point, Alexandria, Egypt.

Richard Claude Woodroff was born on 17 January 1908 in Thames Ditton, near to Kingston, Surrey. As of 1921 he was still in Thames Ditton. Woodroff joined the Royal Marines around the time he left school, joining as a Private (No.CH.X.8), holding a very low number for the Chatham Division. As of 1939 he was a Corporal, residing in Chatham and married to Ivy.
With the outbreak of the Second World War, he saw active service out in Egypt, and at the time of his award of the Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 12 June 1941, was serving with the Royal Navy base at Ras el-Tin Point, Alexandria, Egypt.
Woodroff died in 1984 whilst still living in Chatham.
