Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EVII bust, awarded to Chief Stoker A.C. Kent, Royal Navy who was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal whilst serving aboard HMS Sapphire on 30th May 1906. He would serve ashore with the Royal Fleet Reserve during the Great War.

Albert Charles Kent was born in Sourton, Devon on 19th May 1872 and joined the Royal Navy for 12 years service on 25th May 1891 as a Stoker 2nd Class, he would transfer to Vivid from 30th May 1891, Indus from 9th September 1891 until 30th September 1891, Vivid II from 1st October to 1st November 1891. He would then join Swiftsure on 2nd November 1891 being appointed Stoker on 1st February 1892, leaving the ship on 31st March 1892. He would then be posted to Vivid II from 1st April 1892 until 10th March 1894, a posting to Karrakatta followed from 11th March 1894 until 31st March 1897, then Vivid II from 1st April 1897 until 3rd August 1900 being appointed a leading Stoker 2nd Class on 6th August 1897 and then Leading Stoker 1st Class on 14th August 1899.
On 3rd August 1900 he would join Nile II, remaining there from 3rd August to 9th September 1900, he would then serve with Vivid II from 15th September 1900 until 18th February 1901, Phoebe from 19th February 1901 until 22nd May 1903, before he returned to Vivid once more, serving there until 26th May 1905, being promoted Acting Chief Stoker on 9th September 1903 and then Chief Stoker on 9th September 1904. He would transfer to Vivid I between 27th May 1905 until 30th November 1905., before serving with Sapphire II from 1st December 1905 to 15th September 1907 during which time he would receive his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 30th May 1906.
Having left Sapphire he would serve with Vivid II from 16th September to 4th October 1907, Doris from 5th October to 31st October 1907, Vivid II from 1st November 1907 until 5th January 1908, Majestic from 6th January 1908 to 9th August 1909, New Zealand from 10th August 1909 until 31st July 1911 before returning ashore with Vivid II from 1st August 1911 being shore pensioned on 26th May 1913.
He would transfer to the Royal Fleet Reserve on 1st June 1913 and would be recalled to the Royal Fleet Reserve at Devonport on 2nd August 1914, he would serve with Vivid II throughout the war until on 30th January 1919 he was demobilised.
