Royal Humane Society Medal in Bronze for a successful act, 3rd small type awarded to Charles Pounds for a successfully rescuing James Beale, a Fisherman from Portsmouth Harbour on the evening of 9th March 1895 when he accidentally fell into the harbour. Fully clothed Pounds jumped in and got hold of Beales keeping him afloat until they were picked up by a boat.

Charles Pounds was awarded the medal at the Committee Meeting of 15th May 1895 as case no 27618 when James Beale a Fisherman of 17 Crown Street, Portsmouth between 6-10pm on 9th March 1895 accidentally fell into the harbour at Portsmouth in which there was about 16 feet of water. Pounds at once jumped in with his clothes on and got hold of Beales and kept him afloat till they were picked up by a boat.’
