Leslie Heywood Marshall was born in Madras, India, and having worked as a clerk, then attested for service with the British Army at Mhow on 20th June 1920, joining as a Gunner (No.268937 later No.1044865) the Royal Artillery. Present out in Mesopotamia during the Iraq Rebellion, he was wounded in action in Mesopotamia on 14th October 1920. Marshall was discharged on 3rd February 1939.
