Daniel Emmerson was born in Worcester on 29th January 1869 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 1st April 1894, he was appointed a Boy 1st Class on 22nd April 1885 whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Sion, an Ordinary Seaman aboard H.M.S. Superb on 29th January 1889 and an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Daphne on 1st February 1890.
He later as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Powerful from 8th June 1897 until 8th June 1900 and would receive a Queen’s South Africa Medal, no clasp, 1 of 415 no clasp medals to the ship.
He would later be serving aboard H.M.S. Australia during the Fleet Review at Spithead on 16th August 1902 for the Coronation of King Edward VII. He would be shore pensioned on 14th April 1907.
Recalled for the Great War, he would serve aboard the Submarine Depot Ship H.M.S. Dolphin from 16th August 1914 until 20th May 1918 and after a short period ashore would be invalided on 18th July 1918
