Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 5 Clasps: Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Belfast, South Africa 1901 awarded to Private R. Harper, 2nd later 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders who having seen service in India during the Chitral Relief Expedition of 1895 would subsequently serve in South Africa during the Boer War on operations in the Cape Colony, as well as in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, Driefontein on 10th March 1900 and in the action at Belfast on 26th and 27th August 1900.

Robert Harper was born in the parish of St. Nicholas, Aberdeen and attested at Aberdeen on 27th December 1888 giving his trade as farm servant and subsequently serving as a Private (No. 3092) with the 2nd later 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.
Initially serving at home, he would travel to Ceylon on 29th December 1890 where he would remain until 3rd January 1892, when he would travel to India. While in India he would be present on the Chitral Relief Expedition of 1895. Having travelled back to the UK on 14th November 1897 where he would remain until he travelled to South Africa on 9th November 1899, subsequently taking part in the Boer War operations in the Cape Colony, as well as in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, Driefontein on 10th March 1900 and in the action at Belfast on 26th and 27th August 1900.
Harper would travel home on 21st December 1901 and be discharged on 31st December 1901.
