George Henry Brown was born in Clapham, London and giving his trade as a Plumber attested on 24th November 1898 and would remain at home until 15th November 1901 when he would travel to South Africa and take part in operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal as a Shoeing Smith (No. 4623) with the 2nd Dragoon Guards. He would return to the UK on 24th January 1908 and would be discharged on 25th October 1910.
