Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 5 Clasps: Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 awarded to Private J. Bennett, 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War where he took part in operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal. He would later serve on the Western Front during the Great War where he would be present from 7th September 1914, being admitted to hospital with shell shock on 4th July 1916. He would be discharged on 5th December 1917.

John Bennett saw service as a Private (No. 6187) with the 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs during the Boer War where he took part in operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
He would later go on to see Great War service on the Western Front from 7th September 1914 and would later be noted as wounded on 3rd July 1916, being admitted to hospital the following day with shell shock, after a short period of recuperation he would be transferred to the 17th Battalion, Manchester Regiment and would later be discharged with a Silver War Badge on 5th December 1917.
