Arthur Walter Jerry was born in Lambeth, London and giving his trade as a labourer, attested in London on 8th June 1900 subsequently seeing service as a Private (No. 6355) with the East Kent Regiment – Mounted Infantry. Initially serving at home, he would travel to South Africa on 18th May 1901 where he would take part in the Boer War being present on operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
He would return home to the UK on 19th March 1902 and then travel to India on 15th October 1902. He would arrive back in the UK once more on 10th December 1904 before returning to South Africa on 2nd June 1905 remaining there until 30th March 1908. He would be finally discharged unfit for further service on 22nd October 1914.
