Condition: uneven toning, Good Very Fine
James Stratton was born in Eltham, Kent and giving his trade as Labourer attested at Faversham on 28th February 1885, initially serving at home, he travelled to Egypt where he remained from 29th December 1885 until 28th April 1886 when he returned home.
He would then travel to India on 22nd February 1887 and remained there until 25th November 1892 when he returned home transferring to the Army Reserve on 2nd December 1892. He would be recalled to service and serve in South Africa with 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs from 3rd February 1900 until 11th February 1902 taking part in the Boer War on operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
Returning to the UK he was discharged on 14th March 1902.
