Henry Redsell was born in Broadditch, Kent and attested at Gravesend on 15th May 1884, and would see service in China from 22nd November 1884 until 31st October 1885, and then the Strait Settlements (Singapore) from 1st November 1885 until 10th March 1887 and then in India from 11th March 1887 until 14th November 1891.
Transferred to the reserve he was then recalled and saw service in South Africa during the Boer War between 17th March 1900 and 4th April 1901. He then returned home to the UK and was discharged on 29th April 1901.
