Harry Clarke was born in Brighton, Sussex and giving his trade as a Labourer attested at Brighton on 5th February 1900. He remained at home until 18th January 1901 when he travelled to South Africa, where he then saw action during the Boer on operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State with ‘U’ Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. He would then travel home on 19th November 1902, being discharged on 16th December 1902.
