Wood, 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War on operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State as well as in the action at Belfast on 26th and 27th August 1900.

Matthew Wood was born in St. Martin’s, Birmingham and giving his trade as a Brass Finisher would attest as a Private (No. 2900) in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment at Warwick on 21st August 1890.
Initially serving at home, he would travel to Ceylon on 18th December 1892, before travelling to Malta on 19th March 1896 and subsequently Egypt on 21st January 1897. After a short period at home from 4th February 1898 until 23rd November 1899 when he would travel to South Africa.
Whilst in South Africa he would participate in the Boer War with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, taking part in the operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State as well as in the action at Belfast on 26th and 27th August 1900. He would leave South Africa on 10th August 1901 and travel to Bermuda where he would remain until 29th November 1902 before returning to the UK and being discharged.
