Arthur William Masterson saw service as a Private (No. 5934) with the 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade in South Africa during the Boer War where he would take part in the operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State. He would later be transferred to the Army Reserve on 9th June 1905 and would later live at Alexandra Cottage, Bunns Lane, South Town, Great Yarmouth.
