Henry Marks was born in Margate, Kent and giving his trade as a Labourer in Deptford Victualling Yard attested at Woolwich on 21st April 1899 and saw service in South Africa between 28th May 1900 and 28th July 1900 taking part in operations in Cape Colony.
He would subsequently service in Ceylon from 29th July 1900 until 7th January 1901 and then in India until 24th March 1903. He would be discharged on 28th April 1903.
