Awarded to one of two individuals with this name who died during the Great War. The first Private (No. 241995) Joseph Purdy, 1st/5th Battalion, Northumberland who died on 26th October 1917 and is now remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, the second Corporal (No. 40298) 19th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died on 12th December 1918 and is now buried at Delaval (Our Lady) Churchyard, Blyth.
