Dowd, 1st Battalion, later 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment, who having seen service during the 1st Battalion’s operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 then saw service with the 2nd Battalion during the Boer War in South Africa, at the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900, in the action at Paardeberg between 17th to 26th February 1900, at Dreifontein on 10th March 1900 as well as on operations in Transvaal.

Dowd saw service as a Private (No. 3129) with 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs during the operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898, before transferring to 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment being present at the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900, and in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, and then at Driefontein on 10th March 1900 as well as on operations in Transvaal during the Boer War in South Africa.
