Bernard Sloan was born in Stockton on 11th January 1896 and saw service as a Private (No. 8472) with the 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry on the Western Front from 8th September 1914 and was taken Prisoner of War at Lille on 18th October 1914. He would survive the war, be repatriated and would be discharged on 31st March 1920.
