Gutteridge, 1st Battalion, The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment, who was present in Palestine during the Arab Rebellion, where his battalion was still present on the outbreak of the Second World War and he went on to see service in North Africa as part of the 8th Army, but did not follow his battalion to Burma where it fought with the Chindits.
