Silver-gilt-edged black enamel Latin cross pattée with pale blue enamel panels to the arms, with ornate decoration between the arms and with patriarchal crown suspension; the face with a circular central pale blue enamel medallion bearing the gilt winged Lion of Saint Mark passant within a black enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters ‘ΕΥΛΟΓΙΑ ΑΠΟCΤΟΛΟ ΜΑΡΚΟΥ - ΆΞΧ’ (Blessed Apostle Mark); the reverse with a circular central silver-gilt medallion within a black ring; on original ribbon. The Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa awards the Saint Mark’s Cross to those who have made a significant contribution to the work of the Church which is active throughout Africa. The insignia are made by Lemaitre and by Arthus Bertrand, both of Paris.
