Original County Borough of Burnley Police Form of Application with Conditions of Service, as issued to James Greenhalgh, who joined as a Police Constable on 28th January 1914. With original wallet and letter of verification, dated 2nd February 1914. Greenhalgh was subsequently killed in action during the Great War as a Sergeant with the 2/7th Battalion, West Riding Regiment on 3rd May 1917.

James Greenhalgh lived in Bury, Lancashire, and originally joined as a Constable the Burnley Police in Lancashire on 28th January 1914 when living at Bury, having previously worked as a cotton weaver. He later saw service during the Great War as a Sergeant (No.266981) with the the 2/7th Battalion, West Riding Regiment and was killed in action on 3rd May 1917.
