The Order was established by Queen Emma, Dowager Queen, acting as Regent for Queen Wilhelmina, on 4 April 1892 and may be awarded to both Dutch citizens and foreigners for meritorious service to the Dutch throne, state or society.
In 18K Gold, consisting of a Maltese Cross in white and blue enamels with ball finials, Gold laurel wreaths in each quadrant, obverse centre in silver with crowned Dutch Lion on a background on blue enamels with gold pattern, surrounded by white enamel with the motto JE MAINTIENDRAI, reverse center with stylized "W" for Queen Wilhelmina, surrounded by white enamel with the words GOD ZY MET ONS (God is with us), adorned by a Gold Imperial Crown, the suspension marked with a V (Vreemd) hallmark denoting import of item between 1906-1935 measuring 49.4 mm (w) x 78.5 mm (h), weighs 30.3 grams, enamel damage to obverse medallion.
Accompanied by the full length sash badge in blue and yellow silk.
