He is now buried in Croisilles Railway Cemetery.

Charles Hopwood was born in Tunbridge Wells, and resided in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire before later seeing service with the 1st Battalion, Manchester Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War, being invalided home from that conflict. Later seeing service on the Western Front during the Great War he would be awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 12th March 1917, most likely for actions in January 1917.
Hopwood would be killed in action on 2nd April 1917 whilst serving with ‘D’ Company, 21st (6th City) Battalion, Manchester Regiment, and is now buried in the Croisilles Railway Cemetery being noted as the husband of Mary Ellen Hopwood of 21 Stanley Street, Hurst, Ashton-under-Lyne.
