Briggs, Royal Garrison Artillery who had seen service in Malta, Singapore, Gibraltar and Ceylon during his career. Also a Great War pair to Private C.A. Briggs, Army Service Corps who later died in the District Hosptial, Ober Engadin, Samaden, Switzerland on 9th January 1922.

Arthur James Briggs was born in Bircham Tofts, King’s Lynn, Norfolk and attested at King’s Lynn on 27th December 1888, initially serving at home, he would travel to Malta on 27th March 1889, remaining there until he travelled to Singapore on 28th December 1889. He would spend just over five years in Singapore before returning back to Malta on 28th February 1895. From Malta he would travel to Gibraltar on 5th June 1898 returning home to the UK on 3rd May 1902. A long period in Ceylon would follow from 4th November 1905 until 13th August 1914. He would be awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in Army Order 67 of 1907 whilst in Ceylon. He would see home service during the Great War with no additional medal entitlement.

Charles A. Briggs saw service as a Private (No. M2/268826) with the Army Service Corps during the Great War. He subsequently died on 9th January 1922 whilst staying at the District Hospital Ober Engadin Samaden, Switzerland. His home address being French Hall, North Walsham and leaving an estate of £11,075 14s 9d
