Lebanon: National Order of the Cedar, Grand Cordon Set of Insignia, comprising sash badge with fill length of sash ribbon and breast star, silver, silver-gilt and enamels, this housed in its large fitted presentation case by Huguenin, Le Locle, Suisse. As awarded to Dr Carl Bobleter, the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Austria.
Condition: enamel work very good, overall Nearly Extremely Fine.
Together with its original award certificate, this rolled up and housed within its green scroll case, the certificate in Arabic but inscribed to Carl Bobleter, as is the label on the scroll case.
Provenance: acquired from a member of the recipient’s family.
Dr Carl Heinz Bobleter, was a prominent Austrian Diplomat, who held various ambassadorial roles during the 1950s-1970s, and in a position that specifically represented Austria’s interest in international economic matters, he was the Ambassador of Austria to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development between 1958 and 1964. He was later State Secretary at the Foreign Ministry and the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Austria, notably speaking at the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in April 1967.
The National Order of the Cedar was created on the 31 December 1936, but is regulated by the Lebanese Code of Decorations as set out in Decree-Law 122 of 12 June 1959. It is awarded, usually, by the President of the Republic of Lebanon, for “great services rendered to Lebanon, for acts of courage and devotion of great moral value, as for years in public service”.
