Private (No. 3225) William Brown, 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment first saw service in India where he would take part in the operations to relieve Chitral in 1895 as well as in the operations on the Punjab Frontier during 1897-98. He would later go on to see action during the Boer War in South Africa where he would take part in the operations in Transvaal as well as in the actions at Paardeberg, Driefontein and during the Relief of Kimberley.
