James Halstead was born near Manchester, Lancashire and attested on 19th July 1899, being embodied on 6th February 1900 and travelling to South Africa where he would take part in the Boer War before being disembodied on 25th March 1902, and later discharged on 18th July 1905 upon on termination of his period of engagement.
