The Nomonhan Incident Medal, officially known as the Manchukuo Border Incident War Medal, was a military campaign medal instituted in 1940 by the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo. It was created to recognize Japanese and Manchurian military forces who participated in the 1939 Nomonhan Incident (better known in the West as the Battles of Khalkhin Gol), a heavy border clash against Soviet and Mongolian forces. Because Japan suffered a devastating defeat in the conflict, the medal represents a unique and highly collectible piece of interwar militaria
