Ireland - Republic of: 1917-1921 Service Medal - the Black and Tan Medal, original striking, complete with the original ribbon and top bar. Original striking and in its box of issue, the inside lid of which is inscribed in pen: 'Grand Father Matt Roche I.R.A. War Medal'. Attributed to Matthew Roche, a member of the Irish Repiblican Army.
Condition: Good Very Fine.
The Medal was instituted in January 1941 and issued with ‘COMRAC’ (Struggle) bar to those who had seen active military service and without, as in this example., to ‘persons whose service is not deemed to be active military service, but who were members of Oglaigh na hEireann (Irish Republican Army), Fianna Eireann, Cumann na mBan or the Irish Citizen Army for the three months ended on the 11th of July 1921’.
