Thomas Rooke was born in Bengal in 1827 saw service as a Private (No. 1847) with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) in India during the Indian Mutiny, the medal roll confirming his service in the Meerut campaign under Brigadier-General Seaton including in the actions at Bareilly and Rohilcund.
At the time of the 1861 Worldwide Index on 7-8th April 1861 he was on board a ship from Meerut, India to Maidstone.
