John Day saw service as a Gunner (No. 700) with the 4th Company, 14th Battalion, Royal Artillery in India during the Indian Mutiny.
He would later see service in China during the Second Opium War, and in the action at the Capture of Taku Forts on 21stAugust 1860. He was still serving in 1861.
