Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-1859, 1 Clasp: Lucknow awarded to Private T. Sullivan, 1st Battalion, 10th (Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot, late of the 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment of Foot who had earlier seen service at the Battle of Maharajpoor on 29th December 1843 before later taking part in the Punjab Campaign of 1848-1849, during which he would wounded. By the time of the Indian Mutiny he had transferred to the 10th (Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot and would serve with them during the operations around Lucknow taking part in actions on 12th August 1857, at Azinghur on 15th April 1858 and during the jungle fighting that took place between May and June 1858.

Timothy Sullivan was born in Cork and giving his trade as mason, attested at Cork on 5th May 1840, originally joining the 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment of Foot. He would see service at the Battle of Maharajpoor on 29th December 1843, and later would see service as part of the Punjab Campaign in 1848-1849, where he would be wounded
Sullivan would later go on to transfer to the 10th (Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot and would serve with them during the Indian Mutiny, he would be present during the defeat of the rebels on 12th August 1857 and would then be present during the advance on Lucknow in February 1858 and then in the siege of capture of Lucknow in March 1858, before taking part in the Battle of Azimghur on 15th April 1858, and finally jungle fighting in May and June 1858.
He would be convicted by Court-Martial on 6 occasions and would appear a further 36 times in the defaulters book.
Two men of this name in the 10th (Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot, but with the contact wear to the obverse as would occur with a Maharajpoor Star it is fairly certain this medals belongs to the man who previously served in the 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment of Foot.
