Colin Gillon saw service as a Private (No. 3283) with the 79th Regiment of Foot – The Cameron Highlanders and would take part in the Crimean War, being entitled to a Crimea Medal with 3 clasps, before later serving in India during the Indian Mutiny where he took part in the operations around Lucknow which lasted from November 1857 until March 1858.
