Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-1859, 1 Clasp: Central India; (2218 PY MR.SERJT. ROBT WM. D’OLIER 83RD FOOT) the section ‘2218 PY MR SERJT ROBT WM’ with engraved renaming.
Condition: partially renamed as above, otherwise Good Very Fine
Robert William D’Olier saw service as a Private (not Paymaster Serjeant) with the 83rd (County of Dublin) Regiment of Foot and would serve in India during the Indian Mutiny where he would take part in the campaign in Central India. There is no evidence he was ever a Pay Master Serjeant, thus this appears to have been a self-awarded rank.
