Indian Mutiny Casualty India General Service Medal 1854-1895, 1 Clasp: Northwest Frontier, awarded to Rifleman James Johnson, 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade, and was originally present out in India during the Indian Mutiny when he was severely wounded in action at Nawabgunge on 13th June 1858. He recovered however, and then later took part in the punitive operations on the Northwest Frontier against Sultan Muhammed Khan with the forces under Brevet Colonel Macdonell between 5th December 1863 to 2nd January 1864.

James Johnson saw service as a Rifleman (No.1419) with the 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade, and was originally present out in India during the Indian Mutiny when he was severely wounded in action at Nawabgunge on 13th June 1858. He recovered however, and then later took part in the punitive operations on the Northwest Frontier against Sultan Muhammed Khan with the forces under Brevet Colonel Macdonell between 5th December 1863 to 2nd January 1864. 716 men of the 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade took part in these operations.
