Pankhurst, 1st and 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs who serving in India would see action as part of the Chitral Relief Force in 1895 and on operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898, he would then travel to South Africa seeing service in Transvaal during the Boer War with the 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs. Recalled in time for the Great War he would serve as a Private (No SR/111) with the 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment from 1st April 1915 being discharged on 16th August 1916
