India Relief of Chitral and Boer War Relief of Kimberley and Paardeberg pair awarded to Corporal, later Serjeant H.A. Ellis, 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment who was present in India during the operations to relieve Chitral as part of the Chitral Relief Force between 7th March to 15th August 1895 and later in South Africa during the Boer War where he would be present during the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900 and the action at Paardeberg from 17th to 26th February 1900.

Harry Alfred Ellis was born in Southend-On-Sea and attested on 19th September 1888 and would initially serve at home until 15th October 1890 when he would travel to India, he would later take part in the operations to relieve Chitral as part of the Chitral Relief Force which lasted from 7th March to 15th August 1895 as a Corporal (No. 2598) with the 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment – The Buffs.
He would arrive home on 29th April 1896 and remain there until 21st December 1899 when he would travel to South Africa, where he would take part in the Boer War being present at the relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900 and the action at Paardeberg from 17th to 26th February 1900.
He would be invalided back to the UK on 17th December 1900 and would be discharged on 30th November 1901
