India Punjab Frontier operations and Great War Western Front 1914-1915 Star trio awarded to Drummer, later Private T. Hayward, 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment, later Labour Corps who saw service during the operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 and later during the Great War where he served on the Western Front from 25th May 1919, surviving the war, he would be discharged to the Reserve on 4th April 1919.

Thomas Hayward was born in Cranbrook, Kent and initially saw service as a Drummer (No. 3943) with the 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment – The Buffs from 21st September 1892. He would serve at home in the UK until on 2nd February 1894 he would travel to India on 2nd March 1894, and would subsequently serve on the North West Frontier where he would take part in the operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898.
Hayward would leave India for Aden on 14th October 1903, before heading back to the Uk and being discharged on 13th December 1904.
Upon the outbreak of the Great War, Hayward would re-enlist, subsequently seeing service as a Private (No. 3943) with the East Kent Regiment on the Western Front from 25th May 1915, later transferring to the Labour Corps where he served as a Private (No. 450366). He would be discharged to the Reserve on 4th April 1919.
