John Cameron Robertson was born on 8th June 1908 in Whitburn, Bathgate, Linlithgow, Scotland, and having worked as a labourer, then enlisted at Canterbury on 31st May 1937 as a Gunner (No.1072055) into the Royal Artillery, and saw service during the Red Shirt Rebellion on the North West Frontier of India in the period from 23rd April 1930 to 22nd March 1931. Robertson subsequently enlisted as a Trooper (No.901659) into the Royal Armoured Corps on 17th February 1943, and saw service during the Second World War in North West Europe, being transferred to the Class ‘Z’ Army Reserve on 9th June 1946.
