Kesby, 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment who saw service during the operations to relieve Chitral in 1895 and on operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898.

William James Kesby was born in Tenterden, , Kent and giving his trade as a gardener attested on 9th July 1889 enlisted into the East Kent Regiment with whom he would see service as a Private, later Lance Corporal (No. 3448) with the East Kent Regiment – the Buffs.
Initially serving at home, he would travel to India on 27th January 1893 and would go on to take part in the operations to relieve Chitral in 1895 and on operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898. He would serve in India until 15th February 1901, when he would travel to Burma . He would finally return home on 14th March 1903 being discharged on 8th July 1910. He was awarded a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in Army Order 77 of 1908.
