India General Service Medal 1895-1902, 2 Clasps: Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 awarded to Gunner J. Jones, K Battery, Royal Horse Artillery who saw service during the Punjab Frontier operations which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 as well as the operations with the Tirah Field Force. He would later serve in the Great War with 3rd Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery seeing action on the Western Front from 15th August 1914.

James Jones was born in East Moors, Cardiff and attested at Cardiff on 17th January 1894 giving his trade as labourer Initially serving at home from 3rd October 1894 until 2nd February 1895 he was missing (deserted), before returning to his unit and being court-martialled. He would the travel to India on 18th December 1895 and remained there until 23rd April 1906 being present as a Gunner (No. 2052) with K Battery, Royal Horse Artillery during the Punjab Frontier operations which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 as well as the operations with the Tirah Field Force. He received 1 of 46 two clasp medals to K Battery, Royal Horse Artillery
On 24th April 1906 he would return to UK and remained there until travelling to France on 15th August 1914 just after the outbreak of the Great War where he would serve as a Gunner (No. 2052) with the 3rd Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery.. He would be there for just 16 days before returning to the UK on 1st September 1914. After a short period, he once again returned to France on 15th October 1915 staying there until 19th May 1917, when he returned home for the final time, eventually being discharged permanently unfit on 8th February 1919.
