India General Service Medal 1895-1902, 1 Clasp: Relief of Chitral 1895 awarded to Private J.T. Snare, 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs who saw service in India to relieve of Chitral as part of the Chitral Relief Force which lasted from 7th March to 15th August 1895. He would later serve in the Boer War where he saw action at Paardeberg, Driefontein, Relief of Kimberley and during operations at Transvaal.

John Thomas Snare was born in Shoeburyness, Essex and attested at Woolwich on 18th January 1889 giving his trade as a labourer. He would serve at home until 14th October 1890 when he would travel to India later taking part in the operations to relieve Chitral as part of the Chitral Relief Force which lasted from 7th March to 15th August 1895 whilst serving as a Private (No. 2796) with the 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs.
He would return home on 14th January 1897, remaining there until 21st December 1899 when he would travel to South Africa and take part in the Boer War where he saw action at Paardeberg, Driefontein, Relief of Kimberley, Transvaal, receiving the Queen’s South Africa Medal with these four clasps.
He would travel home on 26th December 1901 before being discharged on 17th January 1902.
