George Cox was born in Lindfield, Sussex and attested at Brighton on 26th September 1883 seeing service as a Private (No. 1048) with the 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment. Initially at home in the UK he would travel to Malta on 30th January 1885 where he would remain until 12th September 1885. He would then spend time in the Straits Settlements (Singapore) until 10th March 1887.
Cox would arrive in India on 11th March 1887 and remain there until 3rd January 1896 and would participate in the operations leading to the relief of Chitral which lasted from 7th March to 15th August 1895.
Returning to the UK on 4th January 1896 and would be discharged on 6th January 1896.
